A new security software for computers running Windows XP and Vista will have additional security that will be given by Microsoft for free in the second half of next year. It is best suited for smaller and less powered computers, but still, the sense of security is the same. It is just scary to think that there has been a vast number of sensitive financial info being stolen from through the hack and malware and whatever methods thieves use. Of course we need security, no matter how less powered our machines are.

Webroot’s Spy Sweeper which resides on my system popped up a warning that an IP address of 131.107.115.28 is trying to access the Internet. I did not recognize it so I blocked it, and if spy sweeper thinks it is a potential, I would not let it pass. I found out that the address is actually crl.Microsoft.com. Microsoft’s CRL (Certificate Revocation List) is invoked by Internet Explorer to check if the app’s component or digital signature has been revoked or is authentic. Changing the IE settings will stop the message from keep appearing.

- Select TOOLS/INTERNET OPTIONS
- select ADVANCED from the new window
- scroll down to SECURITY
- uncheck ” Check for publisher’s certificate Revocation “

Are you aware that there is a dangerous bug in all versions of Windows XP and Windows Server 2003 that puts computer users at risk? Hackers could exploit a vulnerability using Internet Explorer 7, and possibly other programs, and take over a user’s computer for a variety of nefarious purposes, such as stealing passwords or pumping out spam. Well, Microsoft Corp. issued two serious security fixes in a regular monthly update Tuesday as its most urgent “critical” rating. The other fix, which Microsoft gave the second-highest “important” rating, is for computers running versions of Windows 2000 Server and Windows Server 2003. Hackers could exploit the flaw in Microsoft’s program to redirect Internet traffic from legitimate sites to fake ones.
