How to See Delhi and Agra in 2 Days

Two days gave us enough time to visit the Taj Mahal and get a good introduction to Delhi.

We did this trip with our 4-year-old, using private drivers and guides for both sightseeing days. We spent our first day in Agra, then explored Old and New Delhi on our second day before our 1 a.m. flight.

Day 1: Delhi to Agra

We drove from Delhi to Agra for the Taj Mahal, the main reason we’d added Agra to our short India trip.

Seeing it in person was one of the highlights of our time in India. We explored the grounds with our guide and had time for photos before continuing through Agra.

After the Taj Mahal, we visited Agra Fort. The huge complex of walls, courtyards and historic buildings gave us a very different experience from our morning at the Taj Mahal.

We made a few more stops around Agra before driving back to Delhi that evening.

Keeping our hotel in Delhi made the overnight simple. We returned to the same hotel and started our Delhi sightseeing the following morning.

Day 2: Old and New Delhi

Our second day covered both Old and New Delhi.

One of our favorite parts was riding a bicycle rickshaw through Old Delhi and Khari Baoli spice market. Riding through the busy streets gave us a completely different view of the city from the monuments we’d been visiting.

From there, we continued around Delhi with our driver and guide.

Our stops included Humayun’s Tomb and India Gate, along with other sights across the city.

We reached the Lotus Temple late in the day and didn’t make it inside. If going inside is important to you, schedule it earlier in the day.

Our flight left at 1 a.m., so we were able to use the full day for sightseeing.

Traveling With a 4-Year-Old

Our daughter came with us for both full sightseeing days.

Having a private car worked well because she could sit, snack and rest between stops. We could keep sightseeing while giving her breaks during the drives.

The driver handled transportation between attractions, while our guide took us through the places we visited. That setup worked especially well with only two days available.

Our 2-Day Delhi and Agra Route

Day 1: Delhi ? Taj Mahal ? Agra Fort ? additional Agra stops ? Delhi

Day 2: Old Delhi ? bicycle rickshaw ? Khari Baoli spice market ? New Delhi sightseeing ? airport

The two days felt very different. Agra gave us the Taj Mahal and Agra Fort, while Delhi gave us historic sites, markets, busy streets and the rickshaw ride through Old Delhi.
